Yes, the country is in mourn after the unsuccessful bid of getting the 2018 Fifa World Cup (corrupt), but let us not forget that we are just over a year away from hosting the worlds 2nd biggest sporting event, the summer Olympic games, and with it comes the design of a new Olympic torch. The torch that will be held by thousands of Torchbearers in the Torch Relay that will the lead the UK into the start of the 2012 Olympic games.
The London Olympic Committee has short-listed 5 top product and industrial designers who had submitted their interest in being part of the project.
The winning design will be unveiled in 2011 as part of the celebrations to mark ‘one year to go’ to the start of the Torch Relay. Arriving in the UK on 18 May 2012, the Olympic flame will be passed from one bearer to another with one torch igniting the next. Finally, the torch will be carried into the Olympic Stadium on 27 July 2012, where it will light the main cauldron for the 2012 Games’.
